Child Protection and Vulnerable Adults Policy

This statement was presented by Edmonton Baptist Church Safeguarding Board and agreed at the church meeting held on 25 July 2013 and annually thereafter.

The policy will be reviewed annually by Edmonton Baptist Church Safeguarding Board and its effectiveness and progress monitored as appropriate.

The policy will be read annually at the July church meeting as a reminder to all members to be vigilant in the areas of safeguarding

  • As members of Edmonton Baptist Church, we commit ourselves to the nurturing, protection and safekeeping of all, especially children, young people & vulnerable adults
  • It is the responsibility of each one of us to prevent, physical, sexual, neglect, emotional, spiritual and Institutionalised abuse of children, young people & vulnerable adults and to report any abuse discovered or suspected
  • We recognise that our work with children, young people & vulnerable adults is the responsibility of the whole church
  • We undertake to exercise proper care in the selection and appointment of those working directly with children, young people & vulnerable adults, whether paid or voluntary
  • We ensure that all those working directly with children, young people & vulnerable adults have undergone a DBS check at enhanced level
  • Edmonton Baptist Church is committed to supporting, resourcing and training those who work with children, young people & vulnerable adults, and to provide supervision
  • Edmonton Baptist Church is committed to following the Home Office Code of Practice Safe from Harm & adopts the principles of the document published by the Baptist Union of Great Britain Safe to Grow
  • Each worker with children, young people & vulnerable adults must undertake to observe Edmonton Baptist Church agreed procedures and Good Practice guidelines
  • We commit to the safe use of the internet and social media for communication within the church, particularly with young people, in accordance with the Edmonton Baptist Church Social Media Policy, and associated principles and procedures.

As part of our commitment to children, young people & vulnerable adults, the Safeguarding Board within Edmonton Baptist Church has appointed a Safeguarding Lead and team of Advocates. Their role will be regularly explained to the children, young people & vulnerable adults and how to contact them.

Incident/Concern forms will be placed around the church building for everyone to use as necessary.
